STRONTIUM 90% ALUMINUM 10%
- Modifier for Aluminum-Silicon 5-13% alloys in gravity, low pressure, sand and high-pressure die casting
- Improvement of the alloy elongation and mechanical characteristics
DESCRIPTION
Strontium 90% Aluminum 10% is an alloy in sealed Aluminum tubes to be used in aluminum gravity, low pressure, high pressure and sand foundries, to add Strontium to hypoeutectic Aluminum casting alloys Al-Si 5-13% in order to obtain a modifying effect. The tubes containing 25gm, 50gm, or 100gms of STRONAL 9010 are added into Aluminum liquid alloy to modify the structure of the eutectic silicon and induce the structure to change the silicon morphology from acicular lamellar to uniform and globular.
ADDITION PRACTICE
Prior to the addition of STRONAL 9010 to the molten metal Al-Si alloy, the dross should be removed to provide a clean melt surface. It is possible to add STRONAL 9010 during rotor degassing and when bath temperature is in the 690-760°C (1,274-4,400°F) temperature range. Always consider that dissolution/incubation time is required after addition of the modifier. This allows for a good modification of the alloy. Inert gas melt degassing improves dissolution and reduces incubation time after addition of the modifier. Thermal analysis is suitable for a consistent control of modification status on the liquid alloy. STRONAL 9010 is ideally suited for Strontium treatment in the ladles used by large aluminum foundries.

ALUMINUM STRONTIUM PHASE DIAGRAM

STRONAL 9010 is a high Strontium (90%) containing alloy with a low melting point of 580°C (1,080°F), as noted above in the Aluminum Strontium phase diagram. As a result, STRONAL 9010 is the preferred modifier choice for treating molten Al-Si casting alloys, even at a processing temperature of well below 700°C (1,300°F).
