Macrovibe Dry Vibratable Refractories

Macrovibe dry vibratables are dust-free for a cleaner work and healthier environment during installation.
Macrovibe is offered in a range of compositions from 50% to 85% alumina, and 88% to 92% magnesia;
they are easy to install and pack well.

When used as a parting layer between working lining and safety lining brick, Macrovibe resists metal penetration, protecting the safety lining, and makes tearout of the working lining easier. Macrovibe is also used as a bottom-levelling layer for steelmaking ladles and furnaces and as a bedding material for blast furnace runner troughs. Because Macrovibe falls cleanly away from the safety lining, there is no need to hammer at the safety lining to remove stuck-on steel or refractory.

MACROVIBE 85 MF Medium-Fine Grained Backfill
  • Dust-free and odorless during installation.
  • Used as a backfill behind the hot face brick in the walls of steel ladles to prevent penetration of the safety lining and to assist in wrecking-out the working lining.
  • Used as a sub-bottom leveling layer.
  • Begins sintering at 1300° F (700° C) and continues to densify up to its maximum service temperature of 3180° F(1750° C).

MACROVIBE 85 C Intermediate Temperature Set Backfill
  • Designed to harden at intermediate temperature
  • Initial hardening begins at 840° F (450° C)
  • Used where ladle pre-heat is insufficient to sinter 85 MF
MACROVIBE 85 F Fine Grained Backfill
  • Fine grain version of 85MF (-14 mesh vs. -6 mesh)
MACROVIBE 85 LTS Low Temperature Set Backfill
  • Designed to develop low-temperature strength.
  • Initial hardening begins at 300° F (150° C).
  • Sintering begins at 1300° F (700° C) and continues up to 3180° F(1750° C),
    its maximum recommended service temperature.
  • Dust-free and odorless during installation.
  • Used as a backfill behind the hot face brick.
  • Used as a full sub-bottom or a leveling layer, in places where there is particular concern about material movement before sintering has a chance to begin.
  • Suitable as a full safety lining
MACROVIBE 50MF, 70MF, 75LTS also available
MACROVIBE M88, M92, M100, M101 and M104 Magnesia-Based Backfill
  • MgO-based dry vibratable refractory mixes designed for use as backfill behind dolomite, mag/chrome and mag/carbon brick in steel ladle and AOD vessel walls and bottoms, and as a safety monolithic behind arc furnace hearth brick.
  • Dust-free and odorless during installation and very refractory.
  • M100 and M101 sinter to a dense monolith in service but do not adhere to the safety lining, making it easy to remove the worn hot face brick at wreckout.
  • Sintering starts at 300° F (150° C) and the material continues to densify up to its maximum service temperature of 3180° F (1750° C).
  • M101 is a variant of M100, designed for use in bulk hoppers and Macrovibe feeders.
  • M104 is designed to line arc furnace spouts, supporting precast launders.
  • M92 is designed to begin sintering at 1300° F (700° C).
  • M88 is a lower cost version of M92.

MACROVIBE when used in Electric Arc Furnaces:

Insulates the furnace which results in:
  • Cooler furnace shells
  • Tighter brick hotface to coldface
  • More heat kept in the steel
  • Stops penetrated steel from reaching the shell
  • Provides an expansion allowance for brick

MACROVIBE 50MF - 50% Alumina, most insulating, will not hydrate
MACROVIBE 85MF - 85% Alumina, insulating, will not hydrate
MACROVIBE M92 - 92% Magnesia, insulating, will stop penetrated steel and slag

Packaging:
Macrovibe is supplied in paper bags or supersacks.

Because many of our Macrovibe products can be handled in bulk as well as by hand, Imacro offers
an mechanical feeder system to assist installation or application of our products. Several feeders are
operating in the United States and Canada for installing Macrovibe behind the working lining of steelmaking ladles.

The system allows product to be handled in 2000 to 3500 lb supersacks instead of smaller bags. An auger
takes the product to a gravity-feed hose which delivers product directly to point of installation, increasing
efficiency and reducing the strain of lifting and manipulating bags.

Feeder systems are custom designed for each customer's plant layout and needs.

Macrospray Parting Layer Spray Washes

Macrospray products are water-based alumina particle suspensions which, when sprayed onto steel or
refractory surfaces, assist in the dumping out of skulls or cleaning-off of buildup. The suspension is stable for a period
of weeks and may be pumped with a variety of systems and sprayed with a simple orifice nozzle;
Imacro can supply an air-operated diaphragm pump for the purpose.

Macrospray is used as a refractory parting material for slag, steel and non-ferrous metals.

Y101
Used for: furnace slag pots, runner troughs, slag trays at caster, refiner roof where splashup occurs, anode casting conveyors in non-ferrous operations.
Packaging
is in drums on pallets or reusable totes
Y101 and S204 are available in dry versions, to be mixed on-site with water.
Each is designed for a different type of mixing.
Packaging
for 18 kg paper bags or 1000 kg supersacs

Macrocover Tundish and Ladle Powders

Cover slags for steelmaking tundishes or ladles,
insulating powders, reagents, slag tracers.

Caspar
Blends high-cal lime and fluorspar in any ratio, for fluidizing ladle slag and increasing slag sulphur capacity while reducing the risk to slagline refractories of direct addition of fluorspar alone. The most popular mixes range from 40% to 70% lime.
T/L
Aluminosilicate thermal insulator is very free-flowing, self-spreading across the surface of molten steel on tundishes or ladles.
500 i
A basic powder designed for casting tundishes where a fast initial melt down is required at the steel interface, together with a pronounced insulating effect on top.
A variety of other synthetic slag compostions are available to suit individual customer requirements.

Packaging:
Macrocover products are packaged in plastic bags in pallet boxe
s or in sacks.

Custom Design of Slags and Fluxes

Many customers have specific needs and demands for tundish cover slags, often because of the demands
for steel quality. Imacro will work with customers who have specific needs for slags or fluxes in order to
provide them with custom solutions. These can include slags or powders with:

  • rapid liquid development to seal the steel surface against reoxidation
  • moderate to high alumina capacity to trap inclusions,
  • low levels of specific components to avoid pickup in tight-spec steels
(such as carbon, hydrogen or nitrogen)
  • self-spreading across steel surface when applied
  • high insulating capability to retain steel temperature
  • avoid crusting or resolidification on tundish surface
  • low attack on slagline refractories
  • Controlled slag fluidity to promote chemical interaction with molten steel
  • MACROMAG 82, 88 and 92 are supplied as artificial ladle slags

Macroram Basic Ramming Products

The Macroram line includes dolomite and magnesite and alumina ramming mixes.
Ramming mixes are supplied in 50 lb sealed bags.

Dolomitic - magnesite mixes are chemically compatible with dolomite lined steel ladles and are rammed
into annular gaps around plug ladle bottoms, as well as around well and plug blocks. They are designed
not to clump up in the bag in transit, and will remain free flowing when the bag is ripped open, yet ram into
a hard dense monolith. When alumina brick linings are used, AP 85 is recommended.
Imacro offers
ramming versions of 50% and 69% magnesia as well as 85% alumina. Shelf life is 3 months and longer.

Packaging:
Ramming mixes - 40 or 50 lb plastic bags in palletainers of 3000 - 3500 lb.
